Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)

Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is a National Career and Technical Student Organization endorsed by the Department of Education and the Health Occupations Education Division of the Association for Career and Technical Education. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition.

The rapidly changing health care system needs dedicated workers who are people-oriented and capable of playing a leadership role as members of a health care team. HOSA provides the tools to develop highly skilled health care professionals through diverse leadership activities and competitive events.

The mission HOSA is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skills and leadership development of all health occupations education students, therefore, helping the student meet the needs of the health care community. National HOSA includes more than 67,000 members in 36 states and Florida HOSA has the third largest membership with more than 6,800 members.

HOSA students throughout Florida are divided into regions and the Academy of Health Related Professions is located in Region 2. A regional competition is held each year prior to the annual State Leadership Conference. The top three competitors from each region in Florida are eligible to compete in the annual State Leadership Conference held in April.  The National Leadership Conference is hosted by National HOSA, is held in June every year and includes competitors from all over the country.

Students from the Academy of Health Related Professions at Bell High School have competed in every year and have made the school proud with many first, second and third place wins in such events as HOSA bowl, job seeking skills, career health display.
